I am all about teaching the basics - the basics of drawing, the basics of color and the basics for pastel, oil and acrylic painting. What I offer in my classes is a solid necessary foundation/groundwork for future artwork. The importance of these basic skills cannot be overestimated. Knowledge of these basic skills will provide you with the confidence to forge ahead with your artistic endeavors.
For beyond the basics, I am offering the ongoing Saturday class and the pastel workshop and possibly a plein air class.. I love drawing and painting and share my knowledge with you.
DRAWING CLASSES
You absolutely CAN learn to draw. I will teach you how to draw well by teaching you how to see differently. These classes are based on Betty Edwards' book, "The New Drawing On The Right Side Of The Brain". All of the basic skills you need to draw well are covered in this course.
I have been teaching drawing for 25 years and it is still thrilling to me to see each student’s progress and their amazement when they realize that they CAN DRAW! The class is open to anyone 12 or older who has never drawn or wants to improve their drawing skills. $170 for the course with a $50 deposit required to hold your place. I am offering the same class at two different times to accommodate busy schedules. All the drawing classes have a limit of 10 students.

WHAT'S AFTER THE DRAWING CLASSES?
"These basic subjects are best learned in sequence: first drawing, then color, then painting." quote by Betty Edwards
COLOR CLASS
Learn how to accurately perceive, combine, and use the beauty of color with simple techniques that can improve your ability to paint.
Includes introduction to color theory, color mixing and color harmony exercises. Color principles apply to all mediums. You should be able to look at a color after this class and know what to mix to match that color. Students may work in oils, acrylics, gouache, or watercolor (acrylics or oils preferred). Drawing skills are not needed. Some supplies included.
Part Two is practical applications of color principles learned in part one - working at an easel from a set up.
Part One - Evening class - Jan. 16 - Mar. 4 - Monday evenings from 6:30 to 9 at my studio. Limit - 8 students. 8 classes - $185 with a $50 deposit required to hold your place (some supplies included). Part one is a prerequisite for part two.
Part Two - Evening class - Mar. 19 - Apr. 16 - Monday evenings from 6:30 to 9 at my studio. Limit - 8 students. 5 classes - $125 for part two with a $50 deposit required to hold your place.
PLEIN AIR CLASS
I would love to teach another plein air class. The weather did not cooperate last Spring. If you are interested in this class you need to contact me. It will be $35 per class with probably 4 to 6 classes. We will paint fairly early in the morning and/or late in the afternoon, probably at Shelby Farms and maybe some other places. Schedule will have to be adjusted according to the weather. It would be in April and/or May.
PASTEL WORKSHOP
This is a fabulous opportunity to learn everything you wanted to know about pastels. I lecture and demonstrate on Friday evening and you will get hands-on experience by doing one to two small still lifes from the still life setup on Saturday. All supplies are included! The workshop will be held at my studio. Limited to 8 people. $125 for the workshop, $65 deposit required.
Friday, Mar. 23 - 6:30 to 9
